Moffett Livestock specialise in the importation of pedigree
Fleckvieh and crossbred Fleckvieh dairy livestock for
sale and selection, working direct with breed societies
in Austria, Germany and Holland we select some of the
best stock from the top herds free from all diseases.
Why choose Fleckvieh?
Fleckvieh are the second largest dairy
breed of cattle in the world. The Fleckvieh is a true
dual purpose breed which is well known for its' superb
fitness, excellent milk solids, outstanding fertility
and the ability to produce a remarkable beef calf.
"They simply get
better the older they get!"
Unlike its competitors the Fleckvieh
won't burn themselves out in their first lactation,
32% of the recorded milking herds are in their 4th lactation
or above with many reaching their 10th lactation and
producing over 100,000 kgs of milk.
Thanks to the Austrian and German
breeding programmes the pure bred Fleckvieh cow now
has the capability to achieve milk yields that are equivalent
to that of extreme dairy breeds and superior life time
yields when taking into account their longevity. While
at the same time having a clear advantage with regard
to udder health, milk solids, milk speed and cull value.
"They only have to
look at the bull and they're in-calf!"
To be economic, today's dairy cows
must be fertile and have a short calving period; the
Fleckvieh has an outstanding calving index of 380 days,
excellent fertility with a non-return rate of 72%. This
accounts for huge savings on the cost of Ai and also
keeping the herd on a tighter calving pattern if running
a spring calving herd.
"It's not all about
milk in the tank!"
Cull cows reach a slaughter weight
of 350 to 450kg. The highly demanded carcasses are primarily
ranked as European grades U and R and have a medium
fat content. So when the cow finally reaches the end
of its productive life, she will return a top price
for the cull value of the cow.
"The beef is like
a mini milk cheque!"
Creating a balanced system that uses
'the whole cow' is definitely the key to success.
A Fleckvieh calf is more than just
a means of triggering new lactations, with daily gains
exceeding 1.4kgs daily and 80% grading U in the Europe
grading system and killing out 60%, the bull calf can
pay a vital role in making your farm more profitable.
